Vladimir Putin suggested creating a competition for the best comfortable urban environment projects in small towns and historical settlements a tradition

In his speech at a plenary session of Moscow Urban Forum the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that the all-Russian competition for the best comfortable urban environment projects in small towns and historical settlements that was held for the first time by the Ministry of Construction Industry in a strategic cooperation with the Agency for Strategic Development «CENTER» should become a traditional one.

“This competition encourages people to actively participate in the redevelopment of their cities. In the era of rapid technological changes small and big cities should keep their distinctiveness, identity, historical appearance, traditions, spirit and humanity” – said the Russian leader.

According to Putin, there are more than 900 towns with a population of less than 100,000 in Russia, with most of them having a population of from 5,000 to 10,000. They represent a unique historical and cultural form of Russia.

“It’s a tricky task to help those towns to unleash their potential to become tourist, art, science and technology centers and to make sure the quality of life in those cities meets people’s real needs” – said Putin.
