The first stage of Spatial Development Strategy for the Center and Embankment of Vologda is completed
Within the first stage, a Complex Analysis of the territory of the central part and the waterfront of the city was carried out.
The Vologda River is of great importance to the city as the first strategic axis of the historical center. The disappearance of shipping led to the breakdown of this connection and the city broke into two separate fragments. The recommendations will help restore the connectivity of the banks, restore the importance of the Vologda River as a central artery, strengthen the natural and ecological framework of the city, transform the nodes of transport infrastructure, apply innovative engineering solutions and strengthen the framework of public spaces.
Particular attention was paid to the efficiency of the street-road network, pedestrian, transport and bicycle connections, as well as an inclusive environment.
Landscape-visual analysis of the historic center has helped to identify valuable fragments of the historical and natural environment. Valuable architectural and town-planning ensembles were discovered.
The Strategy project is aimed at improving the main objects of cultural heritage, objects of social, political and cultural component of Vologda.
It will give the city a set of tools and a roadmap for its transformation, an opportunity to restart the tourist infrastructure and the economy of the central historical part of Vologda.
