«Tools for Integrated Territorial Development» Round Table

The Zodchestvo International Architectural Festival was held at Gostiny Dvor from October 1st to 3rd.

Over the years the Festival has become a significant event in the life of Russian architecture and construction.

The theme of the 2021 festival was “Truth”. It was focused on the search for and identification of modern trends in architecture and urban planning.

The business program involved a discussion of topical issues related to the formation of a comfortable urban environment and the areas of its development.

As part of the Festival, about 20 regions of Russia presented their achievements, including representatives of regional executive authorities responsible for urban planning policy, as well as architectural workshops and manufacturers of materials and technologies.

There has traditionally been a contest in the review of achievements in the field of urban planning and architecture by Russian regions, architectural bureaus and workshops, design institutions, and students of specialized universities and colleges.

As a part of the Festival, CENTER Agency held the “Tools for Integrated Territorial Development” round table discussion, which focused on the discussion of tools for urban planning and architecture in the territorial development of the Russian regions.

Maria Sedletskaya, Head of the CENTER Lab analytical group, spoke about the “Industrial Quarters” Moscow program for the integrated development of former industrial zones. The program was initiated by the Government of Moscow.

As part of the Program, the Agency conducted a Study of the areas of the city of Moscow that have lost their industrial functions. For each of the sites, a certain development model was proposed that would allow the most efficient use of the existing territories.

The participants in the round table discussed the integrated approach to architectural design, master plans as tools for synchronizing budgetary and non-budgetary investments, prospects for the development of Moscow’s industrial zones and the creation of comfortable areas for life, work and leisure in them, and also reviewed modern methods for the revitalization of urban areas.

The event was attended by Maxim Kandybaylo, Head of the Strategic Projects Department of the Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of the City of Moscow, Anton Finogenov, Deputy Director of the DOM.RF Foundation, Oleg Grigoriev, First Deputy Director of the Moscow Genplan Institute State Autonomous Institution, Aleksandra Kuzmina, Chief Architect of Moscow Region, Sergey Lutchenko, Chief Architect of Leningrad Region, and Irina Alexeeva, Chief Architect of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
