New dates for the 3rd International urban forum in Makhachkala

On October 28 and 29, 2021, the city of Makhachkala in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia will host the 3rd International Urban Forum “Dagestan: New Development Scenarios”, which will be opened by Sergey Melikov, Head of the Republic of Dagestan. 

The event will take place at the “Russia, My History” Historical Park.

This is an annual multi-format event dedicated to integrated development of territories, modern design, and tools to create and develop a comfortable and modern urban environment. The forum will once again provide a discussion platform for the exchange of experience, where current cases and methods in architecture, urban studies and urban planning will be presented.

Organizers: the Government of the Republic of Dagestan, the Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of the Republic of Dagestan. Special partner: International Exhibition of Architecture and Design ARCH MOSCOW. Intellectual partners: the Russian-French School of Heritage Preservation and Revalorization RE-School. Partners are HSE University and Vysokovsky Graduate School of Urbanism. The Forum’s Operator and Program Directorate is the Agency for Strategic Development CENTER.

The Forum will be held in a continuous format for the first time. It will be transformed into a series of conference and exhibition events, which will be held from September 2021 to June 2022. 

The 3rd International Urban Forum “Dagestan: New Development Scenarios” will include:

  • A plenary session: “From results to new challenges and development goals. Where do you place bets?", 
  • A discussion: “New approaches to integrated development of territories: “smart” space for life and work”, 
  • An analytical session: “The evolution of standards and regulations. Logic and context of practical application of regulatory framework in urban development”, 
  • A public talk practical session: “Models and institutes of agglomeration development as a basis for sustainable development of territories”, 
  • Case studies: “Children’s territories: schools, kindergartens and playgrounds as constructors of happiness”,
  • A closing session: “Planet Dagestan. Responding to human needs”. 
  • Workshops on “Cultural heritage as a challenge and a resource for the development of the city. The role of a comprehensive approach to the functional programming of the urban environment”, and “Modern approaches to working with the historical and cultural heritage of cities and regions” over several days.

 The 3rd International Urban Forum “Dagestan: New Development Scenarios” will focus on the following topics: strategic priorities of urban and territorial development; spatial and socio-cultural changes: achievements and new horizons; spatial strategies of cities as a tool for development of territories and human potential; territorial features of urban transformations; architectural and urban planning policy in the rethinking of historical heritage: aims, objectives, resources, and obstacles; architectural and cultural heritage of territories as a tool for building a new identity; basic principles of integrated development of urban areas; key directions and measures for the formation of quality residential and mixed-use development in Russian cities; efficiency of integrated development tools; introduction of new digital approaches to integrated development of territories” and many others.

After the multi-format event in Makhachkala, the agenda of the Forum will continue its development in Moscow, through professional and open discussions with leading experts in architecture, urbanism, urban design and management.

ARCH Moscow Exhibition is a special partner of the forum. A series of professional discussion platform meetings for architects will be held at the ARCH Moscow Club.

The agenda includes: real cases of urban environment change, Russian and foreign practices of architectural transformation, features of architectural and management solutions of the Republic of Dagestan, and assessment of prospects for the use of effective cases, taking into account regional factors.

The “assembly point” of analytical and educational activity of the 3rd International Urban Forum “Dagestan: New Development Scenarios” will be the Arch Moscow 2022 exhibition, which will be held on June 8–11 at Gostiny Dvor.
