In 2021, experts of the Agency for Strategic Development CENTER, with support of the Committee for Architecture and Urban Development of the Republic of Dagestan, prepared a unique study: “Comprehensive assessment of the development potential of the Makhachkala agglomeration.”

This study is a comprehensive analysis of the socio-economic development of the municipalities that are part of the agglomeration, as well as of the preconditions for the development of the Makhachkala agglomeration.

Makhachkala is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Dagestan. It is a significant economic, administrative, political, scientific and cultural center of Southern Russia. The study examines the development of the Makhachkala agglomeration as a support for the Caspian region of Russia.

Makhachkala agglomeration has a favorable geographical location, high natural, recreational, agroclimatic, historical, cultural and tourist potential, a high natural increase and share of working-age population, high life expectancy rate, and developed industrial sector.

For the first time, the “Comprehensive assessment of the development potential of the Makhachkala agglomeration” analytical study will be presented at the annual multi-format III International Urban Forum “Dagestan: New Development Scenarios”, which will be held in Makhachkala on October 28–29.
