Quality of life in the regions is no longer an abstract concept - today, it is being measured almost like a formula. The national ranking takes into account 149 indicators - from infrastructure to the subjective sense of safety. But as Yulia, Head of the Analytical Group at the Agency for Strategic Development “CENTER,” notes, the main shift lies in the approach itself.
According to Yulia, the focus has moved from macroeconomics to the individual - their everyday experience, comfort, and perception of the environment. The assessment now includes not only “hard” indicators such as transport or housing, but also how people actually feel about their city: is it comfortable to walk around, do they feel safe in public spaces, do they like their neighborhood?
At the same time, the methodology is moving closer to the concept of the “15-minute city” - where everything essential is within easy reach. And these are precisely the factors that increasingly determine whether people choose to stay in a region or leave.
However, the system is still far from perfect. As Yulia points out, a high volume of construction does not necessarily translate into a high quality of life - new districts may lack a полноценная living environment. In addition, averaged indicators often mask the gap between regional centers and smaller towns.
Nevertheless, the trend is clear - cities are no longer evaluated by the number of square meters built, but by how desirable they are as places to live.
