Sergei Kuznetsov, who stepped down as Chief Architect of Moscow in early April, has been appointed Architect of the Future at VEB.RF and Managing Partner at the Strelka consulting bureau. Vedomosti invited industry experts to assess the implications of these leadership changes.
Sergei Georgievskii, Co-founder of the Agency for strategic development "CENTER", noted that for the past 14 years Kuznetsov has been one of the key figures shaping development trends and influencing the quality of the urban environment in the capital.
“Moscow functions as a national urban laboratory — a megacity that sets the direction for spatial development. It is here that new approaches and solutions are tested, creating a framework that is subsequently scaled across other regions. This includes standards for the urban environment, new planning models, and advanced architectural and construction practices,” said Sergei Georgievskii.
He emphasized that Kuznetsov’s transition to VEB.RF brings critical expertise that can drive integrated development nationwide. This experience has the potential to unlock new large-scale programs — improving infrastructure, enhancing the urban environment, and strengthening long-term development potential across Russian cities.
