Vladislav Nikolaev on the Interconnection of the Creative Economy and Architecture

22 August, 2025

The development of creative industries in Russia has deep historical roots. During the Soviet era, cultural centers, creative unions, and design institutes played a significant role, shaping not only the cultural but also the social environment of cities. These spaces served as focal points for residents and became the basis for new forms of collective interaction. Today, in the context of technological transformation, the ideas of cultural and architectural clusters are gaining new relevance and becoming drivers of territorial development.

On August 17, in Saint Petersburg, within the framework of the conference “NOT ONLY AN ARCHITECT”, a lecture titled “Creative Economy and Architecture” was held. The speaker was Vladislav Nikolaev, head of the analytical group at the Strategic Development Agency “CENTER”.

During the lecture, the expert presented an analytical perspective on the development of creative industries and their role in the socio-economic transformation of territories. Special attention was given to the interconnection between architecture and the creative economy, as well as the potential of creative clusters as a tool for spatial development.

According to Vladislav Nikolaev:
"Today, creative industries are becoming one of the key factors of development. They create new centers of attraction, change the character of the urban environment, and directly influence the quality of life of residents."

The event took place at the Kirov Cultural Center (Hall A) and was part of the conference program bringing together specialists in architecture, urban planning, and related fields.
