The Birth of Beauty, or Why You Should Not Miss the National Award in Landscape Architecture and Garden Art

10 November, 2025

From 24 to 28 November, the Central House of Architects will host the main event in the field of design and creation of green spaces — the 16th Festival National Award of Russia in Landscape Architecture and Garden and Park Art. The programme has been designed to appeal to a wide audience, from top-level professionals to students and everyone interested in topics such as garden design and green spaces, urban landscaping, environmental sustainability and biodiversity, the interaction between nature and urban areas, as well as eco-urbanism and professional education.

The event features an open jury format: anyone may attend the defences of the competition projects. This offers an opportunity to become thoroughly acquainted with the best projects from across the country, to explore current trends in landscape architecture, to establish professional contacts, and to gain experience presenting work to an authoritative jury. The project defences will take place from 25 to 27 November starting at 10:00.

Projects will be evaluated across 25 categories, including residential environment improvement projects, restoration of natural areas, and the title of Landscape Architect of the Year.

The already consistently strong interest in the Award has become even more pronounced this year, with more than 200 projects submitted — twice as many as last year. Applications were received from 16 cities, including Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Kazan, and Tomsk. The most popular categories were public space projects and private developments. The organisers are confident that both the project defences and the events included in the business programme will generate strong engagement among festival guests.

This year’s business programme is almost twice as extensive as before and will include a total of seven expert events. Among them are a session on new technologies and materials in landscaping (25 November at 18:00), a discussion on finding a balance between the protection and use of urban nature (26 November at 18:00), and a talk on the role of biodiversity in landscape design by Maria Ignatieva, Professor at the University of Western Australia (27 November at 16:30).

The organiser of the business programme is the Agency for strategic development "CENTER".

The National Award is a key platform for bringing professionals together, exchanging experience, and developing innovative approaches that shape the future of the country’s urban and natural spaces. The event helps draw attention to the issues of high-quality environments and sustainable development. As organisers, the task is to create a fertile environment for the entire industry. The ALAROS Award is not just a competition or a forum; it is the soil from which new initiatives and trends emerge.

Traditionally, the exhibition programme attracts significant interest, showcasing the best projects from across Russia, as well as stands presenting modern products and solutions in the field.

A ceremonial programme is also planned. On 24 November at 19:00, the opening ceremony of the Award will take place, with a welcoming address by Taisiya Volfttrub. Honoured guests will include renowned architects, representatives of public authorities and development institutions, and leading experts in landscape and garden art.

The culmination of the Award will be the closing ceremony, where prizes will be presented to the best professionals — the gold, silver, and bronze ALAROS diplomas, as well as a special prize, the President’s Diploma of the Association. The ceremony will take place on 28 November starting at 17:30.
