Open All-Russian Competition for a Concept of Lenin Square, Yakutsk

The result of the Open All-Russian Competition for a Concept of Lenin Square, Yakutsk, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) competition is a design for the central public space of Yakutia. Architects and designers of public spaces from throughout Russia will take part in the competition. The winning concept was presented as part of international festival Zodchestvo, which took place in Moscow on October 17–19, 2019.The format for these design competition allows not only the uniting of the competences of Yakutsk companies with the experience of world-famous Russian teams, but also results in concepts which best incorporate the peculiarities of the territory and the cultural context of the region. The competition jury was led by Aysen Nikolaev, head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and included both local and national experts.

Competition territory. The central square of Yakutsk bounded by Lenin, Kirov, Yaroslavsky and Ammosov streets.

Purpose.  Development of the concept of Lenin Square, that is the central square of Yakutsk bounded by Lenin, Kirov, Yaroslavsky and Ammosov streets, through the holding of the Open All-Russian Competition.

Competition format.  Open, all-Russian, two-stage. Russian companies can take part in the All-Russian Competition. Documentation of the competition is available in Russian.
Participants.  Russian professional organizations in the field of landscape architecture, design, working out the concepts for the development of public spaces operating in Russia can take part in the competition.


Jury. Representatives of state authorities of the Republic of Yakutia and the municipal body of Yakutsk, experts in integrated land development, ecology and specially protected natural areas, economics and spatial planning, marketing and communications, technologies and innovations, as well as representatives of the initiator of the competition.

This is the main square of the whole Republic. It is the personification of statehood. Many events are connected with it throughout the historical life of Yakutia, which determined its future. Of course, it needs a new look.

Finalists. According to the results of the first stage on the basis of the relevant portfolio and essay three finalists will be selected and engaged in the development of competitive offers. A concept development agreement is concluded with each participant recognized as a finalist on the basis of the decision of the jury meeting.

Prize fund. The total prize fund is 1,000,000 rubles.
The finalist taking third place will receive 200,000 rubles, including all applicable taxes and fees.
The finalist taking second place will receive 300,000 rubles, including all applicable taxes and fees.
The winner will receive up to 500,000 rubles, including all applicable taxes and fees. The winner is also granted the right to conclude a contract for the development of project documentation and maintaining designer supervision over the implementation of the project.
